Halloween has an interesting history. It originated in the ancient Celtic holiday of Samhain a celebration to mark the end of harvest and the beginning of winter. Eventually the church created All Hallowed Eve as a time to celebrate the lives of all the faithful believers down through the ages. When my boys were little we would hold an All Saints party for them and their friends. The children would dress up a Bible characters and we would have all kinds of fun. You could actually include many of the activities you have listed here. Interestingly the Celts believed that the transition between the seasons was a bridge to the world of the dead.
