Cheesy Snow Man & Crackers Bible Snack

Snowmen are adored by children, but they soon melt. Sometimes students get sad when they see a snowman melt away, but it is a great lesson about life and death–and eternal life. Our cheesy snowman should help them understand better in this yummy Bible snack and lesson.

Cheesy Snow Man & Crackers Bible Snack

Note: A non-messy Bible snack – though beware of prep time”¦half an hour!

Materials

• A snowman stuffed toy. If you don’t own one, you can make use a white teddy bear (the softer the better) that can be borrowed from a friend or relative.

• 2 large packages of cream cheese

• 1 teaspoon onion powder

• 1 teaspoon garlic powder

• raisins for eyes, nose mouth, and buttons

• 4 Ritz crackers for the hat , stuck together with cream cheese

• A garland of parsley for a scarf

• 2 broken pretzels for the arms

• Toothpick for the pipe

• One piece of candy corn for the end of the pipe

• Ritz crackers or other kid-friendly cracker to serve with cheesy snowman.

• Paper plates, one for each child

Preparation

It’s probably best to make your cheesy snowman at home and bring him in, refrigerated.

Follow these instructions:

1. In a large bowl, let the cream cheese soften at room temperature for about 30 minutes.

2. Stir in the onion and garlic powder, then cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill for 2 hours.

3. Roll two thirds of the cheese into a ball for his body and the other third into a ball for his head.

4. Add the face, belt, arms and scarf.

5. Refrigerate.

6. In class, put the cheesy snowman in front of the children and pass out Ritz crackers and napkins.

7. Put a little scarf around the stuffed snowman’s (bear’s) neck that looks a little like the scarf you made for the cheesy snowman.

8. Hide the stuffed snowman (bear) in a paper bag for now.

Put your cheesy snowman on the table in front of the children.

We all love snowmen, don’t we? This one, I’ve made out of cream cheese, but the real ones, we make outside.

What’s the saddest thing about a snowman? They melt.

That is sad, isn’t it? Some kids like their snowmen very much, and they feel it’s like watching a friend die! But what is death?

It means you get to go up to heaven to be with Jesus.

That’s a great thing! No more sickness, no more death, no more wrinkles, no more aching bones of old age”¦

When the snowman starts to melt, why should that make us think of old age? It’s like old age in that you look less perfect and you feel less perfect.

Old age sometimes looks a little like a melting snowman. People get wrinkles and they don’t feel so great anymore. But we shouldn’t feel  bad when we “start to melt,” or “start to get old””¦why not?? Because it means we’ll see Jesus soon.

Our little snowman isn’t going to melt today”¦because he’s not made of real snow. He’s made of cheesy balls. It might look like he’s dying”¦

Dip your cracker into his cheese stomach and take a yummy bite.

But it’s okay! He’s going on to eternal life with Jesus”¦and once he gets there, he won’t be a ball of mush. He’ll be like this!

Pull out the stuffed white snowman or bear. Well, hi, Snowman! You sure look different now! To students: No more melting! No more saying goodbye to friends down here! No more bad anything!

He’ll be a “˜real snowman’ who can’t melt. Just like we’ll be real heavenly beings who can live forever! Let’s enjoy what isn’t supposed to last while looking forward to the prospect of lasting forever!

Sit the real-life snowman on the table so kids can look at it while eating cheesy balls. Pass out plates and crackers and a portion of snowman cheesy dip.
