Sunday School Activities – Rainbow Wind Chimes
These Sunday school activities can be used with many Sunday school lessons. Any lesson dealing with hope, improvement in our circumstances, or waiting on God; the rainbow is a symbol that His promises for rewards will be kept.
Rainbows are mentioned at the end of the Noah story, but they are also good reminders that God says our own difficult times will end.
Rainbow Wind Chimes
Needed:
•Thin ribbon, different colors, six crayon colors if possible, enough for each child to have six pieces each six-inch-long, one of each color
•Pipe cleaners, one for each child OR discarded napkin rings covered with aluminum foil
•Small jingle bells
•Twine, enough for each child to have one six-inch piece
Before Class:
Cut ribbon into 6-inch-long pieces so that each child can have one of the six colors.
Cut twine into 6-inch-long pieces, one for each child.
Instructions:
Give each child six different colored strands, one pipe cleaner (or napkin ring), and six jungle bells. Each child should then:
1.Tie one jingle bell to the bottom of each ribbon, making a knot beneath and leaving a one-inch tale
2.Make a circle out of the pipe cleaner, three inches in diameter, wrapping ends around the circle for durability
3.Tie all six ribbons to it using the opposite end of the knot and jingle bell, leaving a one-inch tail.
4.Tie the twine to the pipe cleaner, leaving a one-inch tail at either end so that it is long enough in the center to create a loop.
Explain that the loop is how you hang the wind chime; they can tape or tack it to a raised window at home, or hang in on the wall in a room that gets a good breeze. The lengths should be about five inches long when finished, which will prevent most tangling, but tangling is allowed, and regardless of how the wind rearranges it, it still sounds pretty.
