A lot of things in this world can make us afraid. We think about losing a family member or getting a serious illness, and lo and behold, we get scared. But Jesus promises to be bigger than any situation we find ourselves in. God’s job is to protect us. Our job is to believe in his protection – without being afraid or shaking. Let’s see if we can carry eggs without shaking and dropping them – while learning scriptures of God’s protection in this fun Bible game!
Bible Game: EGG RELAY GAME
MATERIALS NEEDED:
Two to three dozen hard boiled eggs, two spoons, copy of Answer Key, Sharpie pen, Two baskets for eggs (or bowls), art supplies for decorating eggs once game ends.
LEARNING STYLE:
Visual
BIBLE GAME PREPARATION:
Hard boil the eggs the night before and give them time to cool. Write portions of the two scriptureverses on each egg, maybe three words on one egg. The number of eggs you will need depends on the length of the scriptures (longer scriptures will require more eggs and are better for larger classes so that everyone gets a turn running for the eggs). Put the eggs with one scripture verse on them in one basket and the eggs with the second scripture verse on them in another basket.
BIBLE GAME OBJECT:
The team to bring the eggs back on the spoon and acquire the most points wins.
BIBLE GAME INSTRUCTIONS:
Have students form two teams, and give each team a spoon and a copy of its scripture verse. Say the two scripture verses four or five times, having students repeat it until it flows gracefully. Don’t forget to include the verse!
When you say, “Go!” the first person on each team will run for its basket of eggs. Using only the spoon, the person will find the first words to the scripture, get the spoon under the egg, and bring it back to the team.
One teammate will be responsible for putting the eggs in line on a table or flat surface. Eggs must be retrieved in the correct order so that as each is added, the scripture verse reads smoothly. As each team will have a copy of its own scripture verse, teammates may prompt the runner. As both teams will be prompting at once, the confusion will add to the fun.
Each student who brings back the correct egg without dropping it or cracking it gets three points. Each student who brings back the correct egg but it is cracked gets two points. Each student who brings back the correct egg but actually drops it only gets one point.
Both teams should play it out until all eggs have been retrieved. The team with the highest number of points wins.
After the game ends, have the students repeat the scriptures again. Students may eat, color, or make salad for all out of the eggs!
