For some Christian bible studies, the group will choose to begin with the Old Testament to give themselves a deep foundation in history and theology. This is difficult for a brand new Scripture reader because the historical often overshadows the instructional and leaves students wondering what they are supposed to learn.
Finally, when students do not know where to start, they often simply open the Bible and allow it to fall to a certain page. Some believe this is God’s way of showing them what they are supposed to learn that day, but repeated experiments will show this might be coincidence after all. Nevertheless, it is an effective way to get a taste of every-thing the Bible has to offer.
Jesus’ parables often seem interesting and even understandable, but how do they apply to today’s technology-driven, instant gratification world? There is a message to be taken away from every Scripture passage, but it takes faith, prayer, and an open mind to find the connection.
Before you start a session of studying the Bible, take a moment for prayer and reflection. Allow yourself to relax and invite God to join you as you study His words. When you feel calm and centered, read the passages.
