A lot of things in this world can make us afraid. We think about losing a family member or getting a serious illness, and lo and behold, we get scared. But Jesus promises to be bigger than any situation we find ourselves in. Even when our lives seem “scrambled up” and full of fears, God’s protection is alway there for us. Let’s unscramble his words and find what protection he offers in this fun Bible game!
Bible Game: “Bottle Cap Memory Game“
MATERIALS NEEDED:
Thirty bottle caps (optional), round cutouts with words of scripture in them.
BIBLE GAME PREPARATION:
Cut out the circles containing the words of the scriptures you want to use. If you have bottle caps, you can insert the cutouts into the caps so students will be turning them over to play the game. If you’d rather, you can just use the circular cutouts without the bottle caps. If you do this, make certain you have photo copied onto thick paper such as card stock, and that way, the words won’t bleed through.
Keep the words in order for the start of the game.
OBJECT:
The student to collect the most bottle caps and say the scripture in order wins.
BIBLE GAME INSTRUCTIONS:
Have students sit either at a table or around a clear area on the floor. Repeat the scriptures you’re using in the game four or five times until students can say it aloud somewhat gracefully. Don’t forget to include the verses!
Then, say the scripture one word at a time, turning the bottle caps over after showing students each word. After you say it, put the bottle cap upside down – so the word is no longer showing–in a random fashion in the clear area. Let students try to memorize where each word is laid down.
You can either write the scriptures down in a place where they can see the whole thing or (perhaps better) be prepared to say them over and over as they need to listen for each word.
Students should take turns turning over whichever cap they think contains the next word in the scripture. If they are right, they can keep the bottle cap. If they are wrong, they have to turn it back over again and leave it for another student.
You can give each student two guesses in a row if they aren’t getting anywhere. Once all the right words have been picked, name the winner who had the most caps.
Then, name a second winner: The student who can repeat the scripture without looking for faltering.
