One of the more relevant Bible study topics today is the concept of beauty in a Christian society. Wanting beautiful things is not a sin in itself, as long as you recognize that beauty is fleeting and will not make you spiritually happy.
Bible Study: “Beauty in a Christian Society”
Psalm 139:13-14
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
This Psalm is a recognition of all of God’s handiwork in the world. It repeats the story of creation, with a list of what God has made man in charge of and how we are to care for the world and keep it clean. If we are made, as the psalm says, “fearfully and wonderfully,” there is no room for doubt that we are beautiful to God. He designed us exactly as we are, and there is no doubt to the beauty in that.
This does not mean that we should flaunt our beauty or focus only on that. Our focus is to be on God, on things above, even if we are made in His image and therefore outwardly beautiful. There must be a balance between appreciating what God made and worshiping it.
