The topic of the soul and life after death for your Bible studies can be difficult. Even for adults, putting a label on something as abstract as the soul is difficult.

How do you define what you cannot touch or feel?  How do you explain the concept to someone else?  How does the Bible explain it?  Use these topics in your adult Sunday school class or Bible study to engage your students in thoughtful discussion.   The Bible talks often of the soul but never quite explains what it is or where it is.  We often define it today as the deepest part of our being, something given to us by God and that is united with, but separate from, the body.  When we die, our souls live on.  Our bodies pass on, but our souls remain and will rise again when Christ.

Matthew 10:28
Do not be afraid of those who can kill the body but cannot kill the soul.  Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

This is a beautiful passage because it shows us that nothing on earth can touch our souls.  Men may be able to take away our bodies, but only God has the power to kill the soul.  When a Christian reads a passage like this, it should give us strength and hope for the life that is to come.  What is there to fear in death if we are certain that our souls will remain?  Nothing at all, if we believe that our souls will live on to be judged by Jesus at the end of times.

Our only fear need be God, who has the power to condemn us to hell, where our souls will die and we will be separated from Him forever.  This knowledge will help us keep our minds focused on what is above instead of earthly things, because our only goal is to safeguard our souls from the death that only He can provide.
