As a teacher of adult Sunday school Bible lessons, the discussion of the the body, soul, spirit connection is important.  Here is just one topic of discussion to explore with your Sunday school class.

Is there a difference  between the heart, the soul, and the spirit?  What differentiates them?

1 Thessalonians 5:23
May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through.  May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

This passage gives us the first glimpse into the mutual indwelling of the body and soul.  There is a clear distinction made between the body and the soul, so we know that they are not one and the same.

We also see that the spirit is made up of both things, the body and the soul.  We also learn that it is our job to keep our spirit, or the combination of our body and soul, pure and blameless so that we will fare well when Jesus returns.  Though our bodies will fall away, our souls and spirits will rise again to face Jesus and those elements of ourselves will be responsible for our actions, thoughts, and beliefs during our lifetimes.
