The [tag]story of Ruth[/tag] is a great example of how loyalty pays off in the long run. This is one of the [tag]Sunday school crafts[/tag] you can do with your students to honor a friend. (Teacher words in bold.)
It is tempting at times for children to side away from a friend who has done nothing wrong, if everyone is choosing other friends or if that friend has some special circumstances that might make her less fun for a while.
Ruth gave up all she had because she was compassionate toward her older, poverty stricken friend – -her mother-in-law.
God rewarded her in the end with something that lasted thousands of years: She is the great grandmother of King David. Friendships come and go. But friendships built on loyalty make God happy, and He can bless them.
Today we’re going to be talking about Ruth in the Bible and how she was such a loyal friend. To honor her, we’re going to make friendship banners. You can start your banner now.
Give children the rolled out paper and the cardboard stick. Show them how to fold a three-inch portion off the top of the banner. They should put the stick onto the fold, centering it so an equal amount of stick shows on either side. Run glue stick along the edge of the fold and along the length of the stick.
Pat down, and after the glue dries, they should be able to hold the banner up by the stick.
They can continue decorating the banner with markers, crayons, glitter, glitter glue, whatever you have available.
