The rainbow is another symbol of St. Patrick’s Day, and it is also a great symbol in the Christian faith. Noah saw a rainbow after God made his covenant near the beginning of Genesis. There is a rainbow around the throne of God in the Revelation. On St. Patrick’s Day, the rainbow is often accompanied by a pot of gold, symbolizing hope and prosperity. This St. Patrick’s Day rainbow is a class project, where your students can “join hands” together to create one great rainbow for display.

Introduction:
For Christians, the rainbow symbolizes God’s loyalty to mankind and His vow after the Great Flood to never again flood the earth. The story in Genesis 9:12-16 shows God forming a rainbow in the sky after the flood. It as a sign to Noah–and all of us – about this promise.
In Revelation 4:2-3, a rainbow around the throne of heaven was seen by the writer, John: “At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it. And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian. A rainbow, resembling an emerald, encircled the throne.
On St. Patricks Day, rainbows are a symbol of hope and prosperity. Let’s make one we can leave on the wall of the classroom to remind us of God’s promises and our hope for eternity in heaven with him:
Instructions:
1. Trace handprints on the different colors of the construction paper. Depending on how many children you have, ask them to cut out one or two of each color using both hands (the variation of color keeps it interesting for them).
2. Cut out the handprints.
3. Paste them on the larger sheet of paper in the order of the colors of the rainbow.
4. Using colored markers, write in the arc of the rainbow: HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY: GOD SHINES HIS HOPE THROUGH RAINBOWS.
