The following Sunday school lesson will give your students information about the International Day of Peace while also inspiring them to spread the message.
In September, Sunday school programs are returning to full swing and a lot is going on. If you want to make charity a part of your monthly activities, even in busy September, this one is fun, easy and teaches a great lesson about the power of prayer!
Participation will help bring peace on earth, which was the vision of the United Nations when they designed International Day of Peace in the 1990s.
Sharing the Message of this Special Day
Today, most kids over the age of 9 have cell phones to keep in touch with mom and dad. Many have text functions. Get them to type in this message:
If you pass on this message to one person, you are helping the United Nations on World Peace Day. Pray for peace one time and REALLY MEAN IT. Your prayer will join with millions of others, will create good energy, and all that energy will thwart arguments, hatred and even a war. Pray, believing, and pass it on! Thanks!
This message actually works on a principle that Christians are finding out from scientists (which happens occasionally). Physics researchers stick to the principle that prayer with belief has energy attached, though they are not fast to name the type of energy. They also say that energy does not dissolve or diminish to zero. It merely changes form. We are not sure what form our prayers take in Heaven; however, we do know that prayers have energy or give off energy. And this most likely has a lot to do with lines in the Bible that don’t use the word energy but talk
about believing faith:
MATTHEW 21:22
IF YOU BELIEVE, YOU WILL RECEIVE WHATEVER YOU ASK FOR IN PRAYER.
JAMES 1:6
BUT WHEN [A MAN] ASKS, HE MUST BELIEVE AND NOT DOUBT, BECAUSE HE WHO DOUBTS IS LIKE A WAVE OF THE SEA, BLOWN AND TOSSED BY THE WIND.
Encourage students to imagine peace in a country that is torn up by guns and bloodshed and wars. Download some pictures from the Internet if that helps.
Have students send the above message as a text or email to their relatives and/or a good friend. Money is not the most important element of charity – belief is. That truth may sound disingenuous, but when we stop to think, it is God that changes quality of life, not always involving money and lots of prep time.
Believing energy can move mountains. It can also prevent wars. Encourage your students to learn “believing prayers” and to send them along to others on this special day.
This quick Sunday school lesson can help you to talk to your students about the International Day of Peace, which is today, September 21st. Can you think of any Bible crafts or other activities that promote this message of peace?
