Today’s elderly are in more need of household assistance than ever before. As parents don’t often live with children and our sense of neighborhood community has dwindled, they often leave projects undone. A church service project can really make an impact in your family or community!
Church Service Project: Help Grandma or Grandpa Day
If a child’s parents are planning a trip to the grandparents’ house, it might be a good time to do some service for the elderly. As ministry leader you might not have direct contact with the grandparents. It might be best to explain to the parents at pickup that their child promised to do a chore for his grandparents.
A phone call from a parent will probably produce a quick list of things that need to get done. The child will write out a coupon for a chore or two that they will do for their grandparent.
While these are more challenging, as they involved the parents’ cooperation, children get to see the appreciation on grandparents’ faces. Kids will see the importance of charity once aware that they have truly made a difference.
