If you’re looking for fun Bible lessons for children, give this one a try! We’ve combined a great, active Bible game with a yummy snack that will help your students understand and remember the story of Daniel and the Lion’s Den.
As told in Daniel 6, the lions were supposed to devour Daniel, but his belief in God saved him. These activities will help remind your students that God is able to do amazing things to protect those whom He loves – including providing angels of protection and causing huge wild animals to act tame.
Daniel in the Lion’s Den Bible Game
Materials Needed
- masking tape, at least 12 feet to mark off playing field
- blindfold
Setup
Lay down two strips of masking tape going from wall to wall which will mark off your playing field. It should run the length of the room but be about six feet wide.
Pick one child to be the lion. Put him in the center of the room and blindfold him.
How It Works
- Have all the other students line up on one end of the room. The object is for each child to get to the opposite wall without being tagged by the lion.
- Have the first child prepare to run. Say Daniel’s in the Lion’s Den! The child should take off and can either be fast or sneaky. The lion has to listen and use his “lion’s instincts” and try to tag that child.
- If he tags her, she goes into captivity, meaning she has to sit on the floor beside the playing field. If she gets past, she stands by the other wall, safe.
- Once all the children have tried, speak to the ones who are in captivity. You’re not eaten yet! The Lord can save you still”¦run on three! Grab hold of the lion so he can’t tag, and encourage the kids to race across safely to the other side.
- Finish by telling your students: Lions are not people and don’t need salvation. They don’t understand about God, so it’s like they move on blind instinct. That’s why we blindfold the lion. We don’t see lions in our real life, but we see hard circumstances sometimes. We have to run past them without getting hurt. And even when we get in trouble, God is there to help us all!
Daniel in the Lion’s Den Snack

Begin by saying: Daniel was in serious trouble when he went into the Lion’s Den, or so everyone thought. But God was good. He put the lions to sleep. Maybe God fed them “snore cookies” that made them “Zee-out” a little like the cookies we’re serving today!
Snore Cookies Ingredients
- Vanilla Wafers or Sugar Cookies
- Vanilla Icing
- Food Coloring: Blue, Red and Yellow
Other Materials
- Platter for serving
- 3 plastic bags for squeezing icing or professional icing writer
- Bowls for separating icing
- Fork for stirring in food coloring
How To MakeThe Snack
The snack is prepared to be colorful, using three food dyes, but if you are in a hurry, any color will suffice (or none!) Separate the icing into three dishes. Mix into each a few drops of food coloring, so you have some red, some blue, some yellow. Using a professional icing writer or a plastic bag with a hole, create the letter “Z” on all of the cookies. Place them on a serving tray (do not stack, as the icing will get messy)
