Sunday School Activities for “The Christmas Story” Lesson
Talk about birthdays. Ask the children why we celebrate birthdays. Ask them what they do to celebrate their birthdays.
Tell the story of Jesus’ birth. In the bible it is found in Matthew 1: 18-25, Luke 1: 26-38 and Luke 2: 1-20. You can use an illustrated children’s book, a Christmas play script, children’s Bible or tell the story in such a way that this age group can understand it.
Show the children a birthday cake. Have them sing Happy Birthday to Jesus, then let them eat a piece of cake.
Make a Birthday card for Jesus. Give the children each a piece of card stock and fold in half for them. Let them decorate the paper. Help them write Happy Birthday to Jesus.
Sing the song Silent Night
All is calm,
All is bright,
Round yon virgin,
Mother and child,
Holy Infant so tender and mild,
Sleep in Heavenly Peace,
Sleep in Heavenly Peace.
